Duncan Keirnes and Senior Member Tom Rysavy shared their knowledge on the A7 Corsair jet, formerly flown by the South Dakota Air National Guard.
South Dakota Wing communicators recently joined in the Top Cat 2021 Bravo communications exercise, including on both HF and VHF radio channels. The region exercise was held on the twentieth anniversary of 9/11. Wings were encouraged to schedule corresponding training and exercise efforts.
Civil Air Patrol’s South Dakota Wing conducted nine flights Aug. 30-Sept. 1 in support of the North American Aerospace Defense Command’s 2021 Field Test and Evaluation radar coverage study in proximity to wind turbines.
The family of long-time Civil Air Patrol (CAP) member Lt. Col Lois Schmidt, of Pierre, has given CAP’s Pierre Composite Squadron a memorial gift. Schmidt died August 11 at the age of 93.

Twenty Civil Air Patrol (CAP) members attended an Aerospace Education Day at the Philip, SD, Airport Saturday, August 21. Attendees came from Rapid City, Spearfish, Custer, Philip, Pierre and Sioux Falls.
Two South Dakota Wing teams competed August 21 and 22 in CAP's North Central Region Cadet Competition. Seven teams from four states competed, including two from South Dakota's Sioux Falls Composite Squadron and Big Sioux Composite Squadron.
