Three South Dakota cadet teams met in Pierre October 7-8 for the wing cadet competition. Sioux Falls Composite Squadron took first place, Rushmore Composite Squadron came in second, and Big Sioux Composite Squadron was a very close third place.

“Congratulations to all three teams and the individual cadets for their hard work and team spirit,” said Col. Michael Marek, South Dakota Wing Commander.

C/Maj. Keon Den Hoed had the high score on the written exam, missing only two questions. The male and female Fleet Foot awards, for the fastest run, were C/Amn. Thomas Houghton and C/CMSgt. Clara Giddings.

The Sioux Falls and Rushmore teams will represent the wing in the region cadet competition in the spring. Last year, the Sioux Falls team was one of two teams representing North Central Region in the national cadet competition.

“It was really close between 2nd and 3rd place!” said Col. Mary Donley. “Sioux Falls, though, came out a clear winner! Big Sioux has really improved! All did a great job in all areas!”
