Civil Air Patrol’s South Dakota Wing played a crucial part in South Dakota Air National Guard 114th Fighter Wing aerial intercept training March 16.

Civil Air Patrol’s Cell Phone Forensics Team helped Custer County, S.D., searchers find a hunter who did not return home when expected Tuesday. With bitterly cold weather and snow likely, the safety of the missing man was a serious concern.

South Dakota Wing, Civil Air Patrol, will hold a state-wide training exercise Saturday, March 12. It will be a distributed Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX) with operating bases with local ground and air sorties coordinated from an Incident Command Post in Sioux Falls.

Two different SDWG color guards, with members from Lincoln County and Sioux Falls Composite Squadrons, presented the colors on February 26 and 27 at the NSIC Conference Quarterfinals morning and afternoon games at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

South Dakota Civil Air Patrol personnel in South Dakota and North Dakota supported the Oglala Sioux Tribe Sunday evening in its search for a missing teenager near Red Shirt, SD. The 14-year-old was last seen leaving a residence Saturday evening and was located in Rapid City.

South Dakota Wing of Civil Air Patrol will conduct a search training exercise across the state Saturday, February 12. The training will include a series of scenario-based tasks for ground team, aircrew, and mission base training, with members participating from all of South Dakota Wing’s eight units, known as squadrons.

The South Dakota Wing of Civil Air Patrol conducted a tabletop search and rescue training exercise on Saturday, Feb 5^th. Members from across the state participated from their local units and homes, learning to effectively manage an incident.

Civil Air Patrol Cadet Captain Matthew Tracy received the Amelia Earhart Award from CAP Col. Michael Beason on February 3. The award, earned by only about 5% of the CAP youth program members, marks the completion of the “Command Phase” of the program. It is named for Earhart, the record-setting female pilot and writer who was lost while attempting an around-the-world flight.
