Civil Air Patrol North Central Region Commander Col. John O’Neill has named Lt. Col. Michael Marek to be the next state commander of Civil Air Patrol (CAP) in South Dakota. Marek succeeds Col. Nick Gengler.

Air Force Major Daniel Vaughan (retired), joined Pierre Composite Squadron on Nov 2 via Microsoft teams. He talked about his career and how the military allowed him to raise his family. Daniel Vaughan is the son of CAP Major Lee Vaughan and brother of CAP Captain Ruth Carley.
South Dakota Wing, Civil Air Patrol, has completed its annual inventory of all CAP property, with no discrepancies. The survey audit is performed each year to ensure that property supplied by federal and state funds is accounted for and managed wisely.
South Dakota Wing conducted twin east and west river SAREXs on Saturday, November 6. The west river exercise was based at wing headquarters at Rapid City Regional Airport. The east river exercise was at Sioux Falls Composite Squadron headquarters. The two events were coordinated but were separate exercises.

South Dakota Wing of Civil Air Patrol will mission training at East River and West River locations Saturday, Nov. 6. Members participating in the twin exercises will train in the Sioux Falls area and the Black Hills National Forest.
Rapid City Christian High School visited South Dakota Wing Headquarters Wednesday, October 27. It was the school's Enrichment Day and students visited Rapid City Regional Airport, where the Civil Air Patrol state headquarters office is located.
Big Sioux Composite Squadron held a mini-SAREX on October 16. The training, in part, was to prepare for a later wing SAREX Nov 6. The event included cadets and senior members, including new cadets without uniforms.
Pierre Composite Squadron cadets and senior members accomplished an activity October 15-16 that had been planned for some time but had to be adjusted to fit CAP's COVID restrictions. An overnight camping trip was originally planned for the weekend but the overnight portion was removed to follow current guidelines.
Thirteen South Dakota Wing pilots participated in a mountain flying clinic on October 9. The event, held virtually, was instructed by two CAP members from Utah Wing.
