South Dakota Civil Air Patrol pilots and the aircrew assisted the South Dakota Air National Guard in practicing the interception of slow-moving aircraft February 10. In addition to the F-16 pilots and crews sharpening their skills, U.S. Air Force evaluators reviewed the CAP aircrews’ performance under a new evaluation system.
South Dakota and North Dakota Civil Air Patrol members are sharpening their search and rescue skills under winter conditions in the Black Hills in the South Dakota Wing Winter Ground Team Academy.
Big Sioux Composite Squadron held a squadron training exercise, organized by Cadet 1st Lieutenant Mitchell Trias. Members practiced Emergency Services skills and piloting sUAS (Drones) and completed training tasks for Ground Team qualifications. Training included a litter carry for a simulated injured person, direction-finding radio equipment, and sUAS drones.
Col. Michael Marek visited two South Dakota Wing squadrons on the same night to promote Tyler Gross (l), Big Sioux Composite Squadron, to Major, and Tom Anez (r), Sioux Falls Composite Squadron, to Lieutenant Colonel.
C/1st Lt Ethan den Hoed succeeded C/1st Lt Zephaniah Tolliver as Sioux Falls Composite Squadron Cadet Commander in a change of command ceremony on January 26.
Close to 70 South Dakota Wing members exercised their winter operational mission skills on Saturday January 14.
The color guard from Big Sioux Composite Squadron presented the colors on Jan 16, during the Martin Luther King Jr. rally at South Dakota State University's Multicultural Center.
