The Pierre Composite Squadron of Civil Air Patrol adult and cadet members toured the SD National Guard Museum in Pierre.

The museum is beginning to use tablets to assist with the tours. Members were able to test out the new system. The information shared was quite interesting. The displays were fascinating to observe. Pierre Squadron Commander Capt. Ruth Carley said, “We saw uniforms, bandages, pictures, guns (of all types and cannons), and transportation (motorcycles, airplanes, helicopters, and jeeps) from throughout the history of the South Dakota National Guard.”

The museum is looking at expanding in the near future to add more displays. They are looking for older uniforms and memorabilia to complete some of their displays.

The museum director, Sonja Johnson, was kind enough to stay late so Pierre Composite Squadron members could do an evening tour during the squadron’s regular meeting time.

The Pierre Civil Air Patrol members meet Tuesdays at 7 pm at 3910 Airport Road.
