The South Dakota Wing cadet competition team placed in the top 10 at Civil Air Patrol’s National Cadet Competition in Ohio this month. The team, from Sioux Falls Cadet Squadron (SFCS), had previously earned the right to represent North Central Region in the region cadet competition this spring.
South Dakota Wing will soon receive a G1000 glass cockpit simulator, funded by North Central Region. The simulator, which works with standard flight simulator software, is intended for pilot training, but may also be used for Aerospace Education.
CAP’s Crazy Horse Composite Squadron, has been named by the national Wreaths Across America (WAA) organization as the top group sponsor in South Dakota.
South Dakota Wing, Civil Air Patrol (CAP), will focus on search and disaster relief photography during an exercise Saturday (July 9) in Brookings. The day-long exercise will allow CAP members to refine their airborne, ground team and unmanned drone photography skills and procedures.
Two South Dakota Wing members attended CAPs National Emergency Services Academy (NESA) in Indiana for two weeks in June. Both worked with CAP’s small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS), commonly called drones.
South Dakota Wing’s aircraft N97947 is in Fremont, NE, in support of the CAP’s North Central Region Powered Flight Academy June 16-30. The academy offers eligible CAP cadets flight training and the potential to solo.
