Weiand is First SDWG Cadet UAS Technician

C/CMSgt Jordan Weiand became the first South Dakota Wing cadet to earn the technician rating for CAP’s Uncrewed Aerial Systems, known informally as drones. She is among only 13 members currently certified UAS technicians in South Dakota Wing.
Completion of the technician rating includes completing six FEMA courses and a dozen knowledge or demonstration tasks specific to CAP.
After receiving her rating, Chief Weiand served as a UAS technician during the recent CAP training exercise in Spearfish. She received her UAS wings at the CRazy Horse Composite Squadron meeting on Thursday, March 14 in Custer.
South Dakota Wing has been a leader in the national CAP drone program, including the first-ever CAP use of drones on a search and rescue mission and photography of the site of the January B-1 crash at Ellsworth AFB, which was called "Pivotal" and "Groundbreaking" for the resulting safety investigation.
