Members of South Dakota Wing and the Air and Space Force Association (AFA) to share the benefits of educational partnerships during the Spring Leadership Educator Conference of the South Dakota Education Association (SDEA).

The conference was hosted in Oacoma on March 3rd and 4th. Capt Richard Rezac gave a presentation on  Aerospace Education Memberships (AEM).  SM Burnett L. Deyerle shared the AFA’s programs with the group, with Lt Col Bill Strandell supporting both programs.

There were 30 attendees at the conference, so SDWG representatives could interact with the attendees individually. CAP brought two of them onboard as AEM’s on the spot, with many more expressing interest.

"After follow-up with these educators in the coming days," said Capt. Richard Rezac, SDWG recruiting officer. "We’re looking forward to more of them joining our ranks as AEMs. We also built positive relationships with the SDEA staff, and look forward to working with them on future events and projects."

The CAP Aerospace Education Member (AEM) program is for K-12 formal and informal educators at schools, youth organizations, museums, and libraries.  AEMs do not belong to a local CAP squadron, do not wear uniforms, and do not attend squadron meetings. The AEM is a member of the CAP National HQ group, with the NHQ located in Montgomery, AL, at Maxwell Air Force Base.  There is a one-time $35 fee; with free annual renewal.

Aerospace Education members are eligible to receive a large assortment of free K-12 curriculum materials that are aligned with national academic standards.

AE members can also receive free K-12 STEM kits - details here.
