Cadet Staff Job Descriptions

Squadron Commander 

The Squadron Commander reports directly to the Cadet Deputy Commander for Operations (C/DCO) and is responsible for the performance and coordination of their squadron cadre to include first sergeant, flight commanders, and flight sergeants. 
Their duties and responsibilities include:
  • Coordinates with any Squadron Training Officers. 
  • Responsible for mentoring their cadre and students when necessary and for meeting all schedule and encampment requirements.  
  • Tasked or delegated additional duties by the C/Deputy Commander for Operations, Cadet Commander, Commandant, and/or Encampment Commander.
     

Squadron First Sergeant 

The Squadron First Sergeant reports directly to their respective Squadron Commander and is responsible for the performance and coordination of their squadron cadre to include flight commanders and flight sergeants. 
Their duties and responsibilities include:
  • Coordinates with any Squadron Training Officers. 
  • Oversee the comprehensive physical training program for their squadron, to include assisting in the coordination of sport events developed by the Cadet Commander.
  • Responsible for mentoring their cadre and students when necessary and for meeting all schedule and encampment requirements.  
  • Tasked or delegated additional duties by the C/Deputy Commander for Operations, Squadron Commander, Cadet Commander, Commandant, and/or Encampment Commander.
     

Flight Commander

The Flight Commander is responsible for the training, performance, and welfare of his or her flight. They are given the training schedule and goals from the Squadron Commander and are tasked with the execution. Flight Commanders are responsible for supervising and training their flight sergeants.  
Their duties and responsibilities include:
  • Prepare training plans for the flight time
  • Fostering cohesiveness, teamwork, and unity of purpose within the flight
  • Ensuring the most effective use of flight time
  • Familiarizing flight members with all rules and procedures as outlined in the issued guidelines
  • Training the flight to a measurable proficiency in Civil Air Patrol domain knowledge, drill, uniform wear, and customs and courtesies.
  • Work as a leader with their flight sergeant, evaluating the performance of their flight sergeants and providing feedback regularly
  • Other duties as assigned by the Squadron Commander, Cadet Executive staff, Commandant, and/or Encampment Commander

     

Flight Sergeant

The Flight Sergeant serves as the lowest level of the Non-Commissioned Officer Support Chain. The Flight Sergeant is responsible for training his or her cadets in everything from drill and ceremonies to proper room setup, bed making, etc. When there are gaps in the training schedule, the Flight Sergeant is responsible for filling that time with classes that meet the educational needs of their flight. Flight Sergeants serve as counselors, educators, and cheerleaders for their students.  
Their duties and responsibilities include:
  • Ensuring the implementation of flight level academic, physical fitness, and training programs
  • Providing instruction and reinforcement of the encampment guide
  • Ensuring the satisfaction of the daily training goals and objectives established by the Flight Commander
  • Ensuring proper uniform wear by Cadet Students through the use of CAPR 39-1
  • Providing feedback to the Flight Commander on Cadet Students within the flight.
  • Counseling Cadet Students to the best of their ability
  • Collaborate with Flight Commanders to assign Element Leaders and the Guidon Bearer
  • Enforce standards of customs and courtesies
  • Collaborate with the assigned Flight Training Officer and other senior members leaders within your chain of command
  • Other duties as assigned by the Flight Commander, Squadron Commander, Cadet Executive staff, Commandant, and/or Encampment Commander

 

Cadet Administration Cadre

The Cadet Administration Cadre team works closely with the Administration Officer and the Cadet Adjutant to facilitate needs of the administrative matter.  They complete assigned tasks that are delegated from the Chain of Command or the Administration Officer.  They report directly to the C/DCS and/or the Administration Officer.
Their duties and responsibilities include:
  • Assisting the Administration Officer in all administrative tasks
  • Assisting the Cadet Adjutant in all administrative tasks
  • Ensure all personnel have turned in and completed required paperwork
  • Ensure all flight rosters are complete and accurate, providing changes to required personnel
  • Create, plan, and participate in the inprocessing and out processing process
  • Assist in the creation of graduation packets
  • Check in and out any Cadet Cadre and Cadet Students that leave the compound and report this to the Administration Officer
  • Other duties as assigned by Cadet Deputy Commander for Support, Administration Officer and/or Cadet/Senior Executive Staff.

     

Cadet Logistics Cadre

The Cadet Logistics Cadre assists the Logistics Officer and the Transportation Officer with duties related to equipment and equipment. 
Their duties and responsibilities include:
  • Assisting the Transportation Officer and Logistics officer in all equipment, supplies, and vehicle related duties.
  • Ensure that they are planning and coordinating different events for both Basic Leadership Course and Advanced Leadership Course to ensure that all needed equipment is deployed and set up as needed to ensure the continuity of training. 
  • Must be flexible to changes to the schedule.
  • Proficient in rearranging priorities to meet the needs of the students and staff.
  • Assist in dining room and kitchen duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by Cadet Deputy Commander for Support, Administration Officer and/or Cadet/Senior Executive Staff.

 

Cadet Public Affairs Cadre

The Cadet Public Affairs Cadre assists the Public Affairs Officer with duties related to photography of assigned activities or events. 
Their duties and responsibilities include:
  • Assisting the Public Affairs Officer with all Public Affairs assigned duties.
  • Protect and safeguard expensive photography equipment.
  • Complete training on the use of camera operations, to include foundations of photography.
  • Capture the “essence of the moment” throughout the encampment, ensuring that the opportunities that Cadets and Senior Members experience at the encampment is properly documented. 
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of any newsletters, yearbook, or other Public Affairs approved documentation.
  • Assist in the narrative for social media, as directed by PAO.
  • Other duties as assigned by Cadet Deputy Commander for Support, Public Affairs Officer and/or Cadet/Senior Executive Staff.

Cadet Safety Cadre

The Cadet Safety Cadre assists the Safety Officer and Medical Officer with duties related to Safety and Cadet Protection Program. 
Their duties and responsibilities include:
  • Assisting the Safety Officer and Medical Officer with assigned duties.
  • Assisting in developing safety briefings for various activities and events during encampment to ensure attendees are aware of potential hazards and safe practices.
  • Observe activities and events to ensure any hazards are identified to allow for safe operations, to include physical training, sports, flight training, and high adventure activities.
  • Promote a culture of safety by understanding and implementing risk management principles and exercising sound judgment.
  • Complete required safety related training, as determined by Safety Officer.
  • Complete a basic First Aid/CPR/AED training by a licensed medical provider or certified instructor prior to the encampment activity, or hold current EMR certification, EMT license, or other medical certification as deemed appropriate by Executive leadership.
  • Assist in the escorting of Cadets that need medical evaluation by the Medical Officer, ensuring that the Wingman philosophy and the Cadet Protection Program is followed.
  • Assist in minor medical first aid, under the direct supervision of a trained Senior Member.
  • Other duties as assigned by Cadet Deputy Commander for Support, Safety Officer, Medical Officer and/or Cadet/Senior Executive Staff.
