10–18 July 2021 (Cadre should plan to arrive on 9 July)
Camp Rapid, SD
Encampment Commander – Capt. Richard Rezac, South Dakota Wing Chief of Staff
Encampments are week-long activities that serve to build a foundation for the cadets from which to build their CAP experience. These events provide an in-depth orientation to the Civil Air Patrol and the United States Air Force. First-time cadets (students) can expect to be challenged both mentally and physically during a busy and exciting week of hands-on leadership development training, aerospace events, and local site activities. An Advanced Training Flight will be offered to cadets who have previously attended encampment but are looking for new opportunities. Advanced students may have the opportunity to earn their NRA Marksmanship Badge, as well as their Model Rocketry badge. Cadets returning as cadre will be challenged even further through the leadership they will provide and staff duties they will perform. All cadets will have the opportunity to be introduced to the military, learn to overcome challenges, develop time-management skills, enhance their interpersonal skills, make life-long friendships, and have a great time!
Basic students (First-time attendees): Must have their Curry Achievement and attained the grade of Cadet Airman (C/Amn).
Advanced students (Advanced Training Flight): Must have previous encampment credit.
Cadets interested in serving on cadre: We are now accepting applications for cadet staff positions. We will need cadets to fill the following slots. All of these positions (except Cadet Chief Master Sergeant) have multiple openings.
Cadet Chief Master Sergeant
Cadet Squadron Commander
Cadet Squadron First Sergeant
Cadet Flight Commander
Cadet Flight Sergeant
Cadet Advanced Training Flight Commander
Cadet Advanced Training Flight Sergeant
Cadet Administration Officer/NCO
Cadet Logistics Officer/NCO

Cadets interested in any of these positions will need to send a Letter of Intent describing yourself (strengths AND weaknesses) and why you want the position/s in which you are interested. You will also need to send a Civil Air Patrol resume with up to 3 references, at least one of which is non-CAP. These will be sent to me at email@example.com. The deadline for applications is 20 Jan, 2021.
If you are interested in participating in the 2021 Joint Dakota Encampment in any capacity (student, cadet cadre, senior staff, especially parents of cadets), you should follow us on our encampment Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/CAPJDE. That is where we will be publishing updates regarding registration, fees, deadlines, and other announcements.
We understand that we are living in stressful and trying times. The safety of our members and their families is our first priority so as we plan for this encampment, we are going to use our Facebook page to communicate and exchange ideas with you on how to safely prepare for the encampment. We will develop our plans, alongside other wings across the nation and our National Headquarters. Please be assured that any plans for encampment will have the appropriate level of safety considerations in place to protect all of the members and participants of the encampment and with the approval of our leadership and the relevant state and local health authorities.
If you have any questions, whether you are a member wanting to attend in any capacity, a parent who has concerns regarding your young person attending encampment, or are new to CAP and just have general questions, please feel free to message the encampment FB page or email Capt. Rezac at firstname.lastname@example.org.
